Miss Mel celebrated her birthday with a delightful lunch at Piha on Auckland’s rugged west coast. We sat outside on a flawless summer’s day with a view of the jagged green hills surrounding the beach  and ate brioche french toast with bacon and bananas. YUM. Oh french toast how I love your soft and crispy goodness.

With the arrival of the new year has come mid-summer (the second month of summer as opposed to midsummer – the summer solstice). I’m on holiday and loving every single second of it. My day job really gets in the way of my pottering about with flowers (of course it funds it too). I will be off to Bali this week. The ylang ylang flower has a very sweet, heavy and slightly spicy exotic floral scent. It is said to make you feel happy and calm. I love to use this essential oil in my night-time cleanser as calm and happy is just how I want to feel before bed. It is also said to promote sexuality which is not altogether a bad thing just before bed either.There is also something very luxurious about the scent and I am all about everyday luxury.
